Elevated LDL Cholesterol Level Increases Risk of Heart Attack
Prescription drugs are not the answer. In fact, according to the American Heart Association, some drugs, such as calcium channel blockers, increase the risk of a heart attack by 60%. Many high blood pressure drugs multiply the problem. Some of them dilate the blood vessels in order to reduce high blood pressure, but this reaction speeds up the pulse. Doctors then give you another drug to slow down the pulse, but this causes water retention. They then give you a fluid pill to diurese, but this causes a loss of too many valuable electrolytes...and so on and so on. These drugs cause impotency in men, and cause gout, diabetes, headaches, dizziness, depression, and high cholesterol levels in both men and women. Another set of drugs that conventional doctors give are called beta blockers. They block the effects of adrenaline on the heart, reduce the output of the heart, inhibit some kidney functions, change the blood pressure control center in the brain, and alter the sensitivity of nerves that monitor blood pressure. They also cause nausea, sexual dysfunction, drowsiness, dizziness, low blood sugar, loss of appetite, fatigue and depression. The drug treatments end up being worse than the illness. The most common statin-related problems are muscle aches or weakness, fatigue, memory and cognitive problems, sleep problems, and neuropathy (nerve damage), liver damaged and increased cancer risk. Women taking statins [including Lipitor] have breast cancer rates 12 times higher than other women. Statins also deplete the body of CoQ10, which tends to be already abnormally low in women. Garlic and Gugulipid are safe effective alternatives. Recent research suggests that the cardioprotective properties of statin drugs may be more related to their anti-inflammatory effect than to their ability to lower lipid levels. In fact, approximately 50 percent of all heart attack patients have a normal LDL [low density lipoprotein]! Other significant heart nutrients for women are folic acid, B6, B12 and CoQ10 [energizes cells]. The British Medical Journal published a report documenting that the number of deaths of drug- treated hypertensive individuals is approximately the same as those who take no drugs.
Research indicates that the key to reducing heart disease risk is focusing primarily on reducing inflammation instead of focusing on reducing cholesterol; although high overall cholesterol readings (above 200 mg/dl) are still considered a key contributing factor in heart disease. Low-grade inflammation within the body is a fundamental cause of cardiovascular disease. It leads to a weakening and rupture of arterial plaque, which in turn causes heart attacks and strokes. This contributes to why more than half of the people who have heart attacks and strokes have normal cholesterol levels.
Used In Ayurvedic Medicine For Lipid Metabolism, Gugulipid is the oleoresin of the Indian herb commiphora [gum guggul]. It is a natural resin similar to myrrh gum, and is the most important resin used in ayurvedic [East Indian] medicine. Clinical studies have shown that gugulipid lowers cholesterol from 14%-27%, and decreases triglyceride levels from 22%-30%. As Clofibrate [prescription drug] is being phased out due to a number of toxic manifestations in USA and Europe, there is a scope for introducing Gugulipid internationally. The guggulsterones present an antiinflammatory action comparable to that of ibuprofen, but without the dangerous side effects which include severe damage to the digestive tract lining and bone thinning. Specifically, gugulipid lowers VLDL and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while simultaneously raising HDL [high density lipoprotein] cholesterol, which is the "good" cholesterol because it removes cholesterol from the lining of the arteries. This indicates Gugulipid's primary use for providing a protective effective against atherosclerosis. The thyroid is stimulated to increase the body's metabolic rate, and the liver is stimulated to metabolize LDL cholesterol, effectively lowering the amount in the bloodstream. In addition to protecting against the formation of atherosclerotic plaques, gugulipid provides regression of preexisting plaques, plus mildly inhibits platelet aggregation and promotes fibrinolysis, which are factors involved in stroke and embolic events. In addition to its antiinflammatory properties, Gugulipid is also famous for its fat-reducing qualities and is used in many formulations for arthritis, rheumatism, gout and lipid disorders. Garlic is one of the most valuable foods in the world. It is used to lower serum cholesterol levels and to reverse arteriosclerosis and circulatory problems. It is also used to lower blood pressure due to the properties of allicin [dilates blood vessel walls]; thin the blood by inhibiting platelet clumping [reduces blood clots and prevents heart attacks and strokes]. Garlic also aids in maintaining arterial elasticity by stimulating your body's production of nitric oxide, a natural muscle relaxant. In addition to its cardiovascular benefits, garlic has been shown to detoxify the body and protect against infection by enhancing immune function, making it beneficial for asthma, cancer, colds, flu, liver disease, sinusitis, yeast infections, Athlete's foot. Studies show that garlic is also used for digestive problems, ulcers, insomnia, arthritis, and much more.
Other nutrients that are used for heart health include Guar Gum, Chromium and Tocotrienols.
