DESCRIPTION: This test evaluates vaginal bacteria, yeast, cytolysis, leukocytes, RBCs and Trichomonas… This Vaginosis Profile is one of the most comprehensive evaluations available. It includes microscopic examination of vaginal fluid, gram stain, as well as cultures for bacteria and yeast. It also helps to identify or rule out Gardnerella vaginitis. Vaginal fluid is microscopically examined not only for common causes of vaginitis, but also for the presence of white blood cells. Both yeast and bacterial cultures reveal the presence of possibly pathogenic organisms. In an increasing number of women, signs of severe inflammation may be caused by several "survivor" micro-organisms which have become resistant to repeated therapy. A sensitivity panel accompanies reports which demonstrate a possible pathogen, whether bacterial, parasitic, or fungal, so that appropriate agents may be selected for treatment. A bacterial culture also demonstrates the presence and concentration of Lactobacilli, the protective bacteria that is needed in the intestinal tract. Recurrent or chronic vaginitis is one of the most common reasons that women seek medical attention. The causes of vaginitis are sometimes difficult to ascertain. The Vaginosis Profile sheds light on the most common causes of vaginosis, enabling the health practitioner to select the most suitable interventions and bring relief to a frustrated woman.
Although vaginitis may be caused by a foreign organism, such as N. gonorrhea, far more cases arise from alterations in the vaginal milieu that trigger inflammation. Factors influencing the vaginal environment include: Acid/base balance (pH), Level of protective Lactobacilli, Glycogen and glucose, Diabetes mellitus, Sex hormones, Sexual contact, Immune health, Oral contraceptives and Natural flushing action of vaginal secretions. Identifying these factors is essential in preventing recurrence of infection. Just as important is the identification of the causative organisms in order to develop the most effective management.
Recurrent or chronic vaginitis is not only a source of great discomfort to many women, but also a potential threat to a woman's reproductive health and the well-being of her fetus during pregnancy. The condition is coming to be recognized as capable of increasing a woman's risk for acquiring sexually transmitted disease, including HIV. Because of the importance of specific identification and treatment tailored to the cause, quality assessment is especially important. The possible causes are many, and may be tricky to ascertain without advanced testing.
By identifying and grading the types of organisms present, the test can also predict relapse in susceptible individuals. It features microscopy for every sort of organism by trained and experienced technicians with an advanced DNA probe for the most common causes of the condition. With a rapid, semiautomated DNA probe test to definitively identify clinically significant levels of Gardnerella, and Trichomonas, detection rates for these organisms can reach levels of 90% and greater in properly transported specimens.
What is candida?
Candida yeast is a combination of fungus and parasites. It is a cheesy yeastlike discharge that may appear vaginally in women, but it is often systemic [in the bloodstream] in women and men. Because of its viscous nature, it blocks adequate oxygen flow and interferes with normal organ processes, thereby disrupting their functions. Yeast infections wipe out intestinal flora and can depress the immune system, leaving individuals more prone to recurrent bacterial and viral infections. Candida has been found to produce 79 distinct toxins. These toxins may be responsible for many of the candida symptoms. The Candida yeast infection symptoms will vary from one individual to another. Yeasts normally live on the skin, in the digestive tract, and in the vagina. However, it is when an uncontrolled overgrowth of yeast occurs, particularly Candida Albicans, that symptoms begin to develop. Candida Albicans is a common organism which frequently becomes massive if our natural immunity and bacterial balance is disturbed in some way. Candida in the bloodstream travels throughout the body and can attach itself not only to the intestines and genital tract, but also to the mouth, esophagus, throat, and many other parts of the body, while destroying the healthy flora and resulting in leaky gut syndrome. Leaky gut syndrome is increased intestinal permeability which causes vital nutrients to leak out. Candida is usually the result of synthetic antibiotics, hormones or steroids, which kill the beneficial bacteria ["friendly bacteria" probiotics] in your body along with the harmful bacteria. The beneficial bacteria consist of over 400 different species which live in the colon. This beneficial "friendly bacteria," which includes Lactobacillus Acidophilus flora, is crucial to the health of the immune system. When it is killed, it leaves the body vulnerable to many different infections of a bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic nature.
Where do the antibiotics, steroids or hormones that cause candida come from? These substances, which include synthetic cortisone, insulin, estrogen, progesterone, and oral contraceptives, accumulate not only from taking them [orally, injections, patch, etc] at different intervals throughout your life. Pregnancy also contributes to candida due to the large increase of hormones in the body. Perhaps the most common means of acquiring the antibiotics, steroids and hormones for men, women and children is from eating meat/milk/milk products/eggs from cows, turkeys, pigs, and chickens that have been injected with them. It is not unusual for cows to be injected with over 400 different synthetic antibiotics. The synthetic steroids/hormones are given by farmers and ranchers to cause the animals to grow larger and to produce more meat/milk/milk products/eggs than they would normally. They are also injected in fruits and vegetables to cause them to grow larger, to produce more juice and color, and to have a longer shelf life. "Probiotics" is a term that describes certain beneficial bacteria vital to the health of the intestinal tract. When intestinal probiotics are deficient, candida yeast infections and leaky gut syndrome result. Leaky gut syndrome is an increase in intestinal permeability, which causes vital nutrients to leak out. There are over 400 different known species of bacteria that inhabit the normal bowel - including viruses, yeasts, and parasites. The intestinal tract is home to some 100 trillion microorganisms, but only a few of them are beneficial bacteria. These friendly beneficial bacteria have been successfully used to rid the body of many dangerous microorganisms, and unlike drugs, herbs, vitamins and minerals, it is impossible to take too many probiotics and overdose.
