INGREDIENTS: Each capsule contains:
Gugulipid Extract (commiphora mukul) 340 mg.
Other ingredients: rice flour, magnesium stearate.
PHYSIOLOGY: Gugulipid is the oleoresin of the Indian Herb Commiphora Mukul or gum guggul. This product is an ancient Ayurverdic medicine proven effective by modern research to: reduce elevated serum cholesterol with significant reductions in LDL and VLDL; increase HDL cholesterol; reduce serum triglycerides; protect against cholesterol-induced atherosclerosis; decrease platelet adhesiveness and increase fibrinolytic activity; reduce body weight in obese patients with elevated cholesterol levels; stimulate thyroid function; and remove excess uric acid in the system.
Gugulipid: a mixture of several steroid lipids isolated from the plant Commiphora Mukul (gum guggul) has been marketed by an Indian pharmaceutical firm as a potent hypolipidemic agent. Its evolution spans over two decades. The college of medical sciences, Banares Hindu University, Varanasi in 1964 discovered the lipid lowering effects of gum guggul, tested and proved its efficacy in 1966. Satyavati, however, first reported the hypolipidemic action of the drug, in her thesis entitled "Effects of an indigenous drug on disorders of lipid metabolism with special efforts to atherosclerosis and obesity." Submitted in the BHU in January 1966. Other clinical studies have followed in quick succession, all of which confirmed the efficacy of gum guggul in lowering serum cholesterol and other lipids in patients of obesity/hypolipidemic. A few studies have shown a significant increase in serum fibrinolytic activity and Bordia and Chuttani reported a decrease in the platelet adhesive index from Udaipr, in patients of coronary artery disease and healthy controls. Increased fibrinolytic activity was reported with no effect on platelet aggregation was reported. Gugulon in a dose of 400 mg t.i.d. for four weeks has been reported to be devoid of any adverse effect on liver function, blood sugar, blood urea, and hematological perimeters, etc. Some studies have attributed the hypolipidemic drug effect to its action on the thyroid gland. The drug is claimed to lower serum cholesterol up to 27 percent and the triglycerides up to 31 percent. Gugulon is the first hypolipidemic agent arrived from the plant source.
INDICATIONS:
Specifically, gugulipid lowers the harmful VLDL and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while simultaneously raising the good HDL cholesterol. This indicates Gugulipid's primary use for providing a protective effective against atherosclerosis. The thyroid is stimulated to increase the body's metabolic rate, and the liver is stimulated to metabolize LDL cholesterol, effectively lowering the amount in the bloodstream. In addition to protecting against the formation of atherosclerotic plaques, gugulipid provides regression of preexisting plaques, plus mildly inhibits platelet aggregation and promotes fibrinolysis, which are factors involved in stroke and embolic events. The guggulsterones present an antiinflammatory action comparable to that of ibuprofen. Gugulipid is also famous for its fat-reducing qualities and is used in many formulations for arthritis, rheumatism, gout and lipid disorders. Used In Ayurvedic Medicine For Lipid Metabolism, Gugulipid is the oleoresin of the Indian herb commiphora [gum guggul]. It is a natural resin similar to myrrh gum, and is the most important resin used in ayurvedic [East Indian] medicine. Clinical studies have shown that gugulipid lowers cholesterol from 14%-27%, and decreases triglyceride levels from 22%-30%. As Clofibrate [prescription drug] is being phased out due to a number of toxic manifestations in USA and Europe, there is a scope for introducing Gugulipid internationally. The guggulsterones present an antiinflammatory action comparable to that of ibuprofen, but without the dangerous side effects which include severe damage to the digestive tract lining and bone thinning. This product uses the potent extract for maximum performance.
Most of the research done with Gugulipid has dealt with its effect on lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis. However, there have been some reports of beneficial effects on obesity, thyroid function and arthritis.
